Glacial acetic acid generally refers to acetic acid, an organic monobasic acid, which is the main component of vinegar. Acetic acid is widely distributed in nature, such as in fruits or vegetable oils, but mainly exists in the form of esters. It exists in the form of free acid in animal tissues, excreta and blood. Many microorganisms can convert different organic matter into acetic acid through fermentation.
Acetic acid, systematically named ethanoic acid, is a colourless liquid organic compound with the chemical formula CH3COOH (also written as CH3CO2H or C2H4O2). When undiluted, it is sometimes called glacial acetic acid. Acetic acid has a distinctive sour taste and pungent smell. In addition to household vinegar, it is mainly produced as a precursor to polyvinyl acetate and cellulose acetate. It is classified as a weak acid since it only partially dissociates in solution, but concentrated acetic acid is corrosive and can attack the skin.

Glacial acetic acid, as one of most important organic raw materials, is mainly used in production process of many products, such as vinyl acetate, acetic anhydride, diketene, acetate ester, acetate, acetate fiber and chloroactic acid etc. Acetic acid is a chemical reagent for the production of chemical compounds. The largest single use of acetic acid is in the production of vinyl acetate monomer, closely followed by acetic anhydride and ester production. The volume of acetic acid used in vinegar is comparatively small.It is an important raw material for syntesized fiber, gooey, medicines, pesticides and dyes, and also a good organic solvent. It is widely applied in industries of plastics, rubbers and printing etc.

Do not store near alkaline substances. Acetic acid should be kept above its freezing point of 62F(17C) to allow it to be handled as a liquid. It will contract slightly on freezing. Freezing and thawing does not affect product quality.
